SUMMARY

One of the three 1978 March run BMW Junior Team works cars.

Raced by Marc Surer to 2nd in the European Formula 2 Championship with pole positions at Hockenheim and Mendoza, overall victory at Mendoza and heat wins at Hockenheim.

Bought from a long term collection by the current owner and meticulously restored to 1978 specification.

Race winner in Historic Formula 2 and the car which claimed 3rd overall at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The ultimate competitor for Historic Formula 2 racing, arguably one of the finest F2 cars which would not be out of place within the best collections.

OVERVIEW

The Tecno has subsequently been maintained and enhanced by Lifetime Racing for its current owner, with particular attention given to improving the driving position and safety for a taller driver. It has only competed in the 2021 Silverstone Classic since restoration, qualifying first in class with a down on power engine which has subsequently been rebuilt.


Currently fitted with a zero miles Ridgeway Cosworth BDA in Atlantic specification and an FT200 gearbox which was completely rebuilt and re-chromated by JP with a 9-31 CWP with cam and pawl LSD.


Complete with a spares package which includes:

• 2 sets of wheels with mounted slicks and wets
• A set of newly fabricated spare wishbones
• A complete set of bodywork
• 1 rear wing with frame
• 2 front wings
• 1 lower body mould
• 1 rear upright
• 2 new discs
• A selection of running spares
• History and set up information


The car’s early history is unknown but more recent owners include Tony Birchenough, Martin Birrane and hillclimber John Hart. The Tecno is very versatile and can run in several winged and non-winged classes in the HSCC and Equipe Classic Formula 2/Atlantic series, offering a wide variety of events both at home and in Europe. A fabulous example which has HTP papers until 2030.
